Anybody that wants to play basketball can play due to its simplicity to learn. If a girl tried playing football the chances are that when she got hit that she would probably be seriously injured. A Helping Hand My Loan Recipient Essay - 766 Words

Liya Banda is the loan recipient I helped fund from Lusaka, Zambia. Her story stood out to me because there was not much progress made on her loan. She was far from her goal with only 10% progress made. At the time I picked her, there was a glitch on FINCA’s website and I wasn’t even able to read her full biography. I decided to fund her loan anyways because I trusted that she could use the help. Her story was on the last page of the website, her loan wasn’t near being fully funded, and her biography was not complete. I put myself in her position and realized just how much help she needed. I had hope that people would do the same I did and give her the benefit of the doubt. I helped her provide for her family and increase her profits for her business. Even though it was only a twenty five dollar loan, it was enough to make a change. She only needs 16 people to lend her 25 dollars in order for her to get to her 400 dollar goal. I am so honored I was one of the 16 people to help her get back on her feet and am looking forward to seeing her progress. Charity is when someone donates their time or money to an organization. When you give money to a charity, you are helping an organization and not a specific individual. You don’t know the specific person you are helping. With microfinance, you are loaning money to certain individuals. Yo u know the name and story of the person you are loaning your money to. The continuing conflict is a sign Nigeria’s lack of effective mechanisms to manage ethnic conflicts. The intense ethnic conflicts that rocked Nigeria and South Africa have pushed them to develop constitutionally backed institutions for conflict management. It’s important to look more deeply into comedic TV shows because they serve a much greater purpose than simply entertainment. The fact that South Park is so entertaining and informs American youth of the elements of American government society at the same time adds to its appeal and is part of the reason why the show is so popular. Consider Carl Matheson’s essay: â€Å"The Simpsons, Hyper-Irony, and the Meaning of Life†. He defines hyper-irony as making cruel fun of something in the most cynical way possible, only to then undercut the cynicism itself to show your cynicism is just as questionable as the thing you’re making fun of. Military Leadership No Control Group Exists - 1518 Words

Military leadership is forever difficult to umpire as no control group exists. One may see the verdict of hindsight view passive strategy unfavorably, like General George McClellan who built the Union army in the early stages of the war but was a lethargic and fearful field commander who seemed incapable of gathering the courage to assertively take on Confederate General Robert E. Lee, an American soldier best known for commanding the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia; others are indicted on being too reckless. Shelby Foote, an American historian and novelist, describes the massacre on Gettysburg by Major General George Pickett, proclaiming, â€Å"And that was the mistake he made, the mistake of all mistakes....and there was scarcely a†¦show more content†¦In February of 1862, Ulysses S. Grant took control of all union forces following his impressive governance over the reinforced Confederates under Brigadier General Gideon J. Pillow at the battle of Fort Donelson (Gran t 149). Ultimately, he developed a grand strategy to defeat the Confederacy and in the end, with much resistance, succeeded. Grant began to greatly take advantage of the Northern upper hand in resources, transforming the war into a bloody but efficient battle of attrition. He in this manner revived the Northern war exertion and saw it through to its finish, with General Robert Lee surrendering on April 9, 1865, at the McLean House in Appomattox, Virginia (329). The battle of Shiloh (April 6-7, 1862), the Civil War’s first catastrophically bloody battle, serves as an illustration of Grant’s military prowess. The implementation of sound tactics with the advantages provided to him explicitly in Shiloh and throughout the American Civil War, along with his sincere concern and belief in his troops, result in victory here and in the conflict altogether. Following defeats at Fort Henry and Donelson, Confederate Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston, commander of the western armies within the Western Department, withdrew to Corinth, Mississippi in order to start preparing for an offensive maneuver against Grant (150). He was eager to catch Grant before the Army of the Ohio under Major

The participants and audience for SNSs is growing rapidly. Statistics published become quickly out dated and it is interesting to observe both the international and national trends of Internet usage generally over the years, as well as those specific to the use of Social Networking Sites. More than 60% of the participants in this study reported accessing the internet and social networking sites on a daily basis. American studies also reflect and expand on these limited Australian statistics. A 2004 PEW Internet and American Life survey found that 87% of teenagers aged between twelve and seventeen had some level of internet access, whether this was at home, school or another public space such as a local library. Post WW1 Isolationism Many events had led to the U.S turning away from international affairs after World War One, this making them an isolationist nation. Isolationism is the policy of remaining apart from affairs and otr interests of other groups, political affairs of other countries. After World War One the U.S tried to reduce their appearance in world affairs. The U.S refused to join the League of Nations. Even though the American president at the time, Woodrow Wilson, thought they should join in world affairs to try and create peace, the Americans felt that they did not want the U.S to be apart of yet another European conflict that could create another war especially after the destruction and cost of World War One. This is because Americans saw the Nation of Europe as a problem nation that could be easily be involved in internal and external disagreements drawing in the U.S into another war that would have not much to do with the Americans. The U.S closed doors to immigration exc luding the Chinese, Japanese, other Asians, and Europeans(Eastern and Southern). The U.S turned against immigration because of anti-European feelings after World War One, believed immigrant labor forced down wages, railroads/industries were built which meant that there was no need for the abundant amount of unskilled workers. Immigration and Popular Culture free essay sample

Fussbudget Immigration and American Popular Culture All of the different ethnic groups that migrated from their homeland to the united States left some kind of mark on American popular culture. The European immigrants during the sass created a very large splash in the public eye through the use of cinema. In addition, the Jamaican immigrants in South Bronx during the sass made a name for themselves by introducing a form of music called rap.In this paper, I will be analyzing and comparing the similarities and differences between the effects of he Jewish immigrants and the Jamaican immigrants on American popular culture and how popular culture redefined these groups and gave them social and political Identities In the United States. Jewish immigrants of the sass took American popular culture by surprise through their mass takeover of the Hollywood film Industry. Through the creation of many production companies, these immigrants were able to establish themselves as a dominant figure in the movie industry early in their careers. Many of these Jewish productions are common names in our current cinema Industry such as Warner Brose. Miramar, and any of the other companies owned by the Weinstein brothers. A majority of the films produced by these companies were created on the idea of gangsters. However these gangsters portrayed in the films were double agents in the eyes of American people: criminal yet heroic, stylish yet tasteless, bold yet ultimately defeated. The gangster masquerade was an Important exercise in popular culture 3) Through these cinemas the movie producers were able to introduce slang terms into our society. Some of these terms, which are still popular today, are gate, clip, beef, and the joint. With these terms sneaking their way Into the American vernacular, the Jewish film producers were able to develop new words that were used by all of society and are soul used In our current era. By creating this image of the Jewish gangs « these immigrants not only created a name for themselves in Hollywood, but they were able to create a socio-political Identity In America.By establishing the Idea of the Jewish gangster In American popular culture, the Jewish immigrants developed a social image as being tough talking gangsters alongside the fact that the Jewish immigrants were seen as criminal figures. Due to he high levels of statistics that proved that Jewish immigrants were contributing to the corruption of American morals through a disproportionate Involvement In pimping, prostitution, robbery, and assault(21), the American public was beginning to label the young males of the Jewish immigration community as Juvenile delinquents. With this labeling of the Jewish youth, the Ameri can public began generalizing gangsters as not being American, but as being a foreign characteristic. He anti no gangster, hes one of them old-fashioned desperado. Gangsters is foreigners, and hes an American. (27) The confidence in which the character Pops, The Petrified Forest, distinguishes between gangsters and other forms of criminal behavior shows that after five years of producing these criminal based films the gangster had already become a widely circulating model of aggressive masculinity and suspect class and ethnic mobility. (27) Not only did the association of gangster/ 1 OFF public began idealizing that anything criminal was caused by the foreign immigrants. During the era of the post 1965 period came another very important immigration group: the Jamaican. During the sass and the sass, the Jamaican played an important role in the launching of a new form of music called hip-hop. The beginning of this Cultural Revolution began because of the high level of American cultural literacy the Jamaican immigrant came to the United States with. The country of Jamaica had been flooded with Americans goods and products since the sass. From American rhythm and blues to Hollywood Western mov ies, Jamaican took the offerings of First World power and changed them from During the sass, the Jamaican immigrants were able to create in the American paradigm of the music business. This shift was founded mostly on the Jamaican concept of barcarole(178) which translates to making new products out of minimal resources. One of the most recognized Jamaican immigrants that generated the idea of hip hop was a man by the name of Clive Campbell, aka DC Cool Here. One of Campbell more popular creations was when he extended the break of the song by switching between two of the same records. The idea of break dancing came from this early innovation. In addition, Clive Campbell created applied the ideas of using a vocalist during the break. Some of the catch phrases used consisted of to the beat fall and you dont stop. (180) These ideas that Campbell was introducing into American music were concepts that were already being used in Jamaica. If Jamaican had never immigrated, hip hop would have never become as popular as early as it did. With this introduction of rap into American culture came a love-hate relationship between Jamaican and the identity that they were given. Although many Sumerians practiced the idea of radical consumerism, a majority had salty feelings towards the idea of living in the economic and cultural shadow of the United States. However, many Jamaican immigrants had already seen themselves as internationalization because of the American missionaries, soldiers, and business people bringing them American cultural stuff. 197) This created the idea that New York City was no longer the center for Caribbean immigrants, but it was more of a Northern frontier as described by Roy Simon Bryce-Elaborate. This image of the Jamaican immigrants being on the forefront of the immigration frontier created an economic platform that everyone was trying to cash in on. For instance, the Jamaican government began sending ambassadors to the World Fair in New York in an attempt to spread their cultural boundaries. With the Jamaican immigrants making a huge impact in the American music business, they also were able to open new doors for their homeland in the international economy. The Jewish immigrants from Europe and the Jamaican immigrants both made a tremendous impact on the identity of American Popular culture. The Jewish immigrants revolutionized the film industry with their introduction of gangster films in Hollywood. With this splash landing in American culture the Jewish immigrants also managed to give themselves a bad name. On the same note, the Jamaican immigrants redefined the American music business with their use of the hip hop/rap genre. However, the Jamaican managed to make their impact on popular culture have a positive effect on their social image. Without these groups, popular culture

The Crucible and McCarthyism Paralleled free essay sample

Miller paralleled McCarthy by writing about the events and ways of thinking that prompted the outbreaks, the immediate reactions Of the people, the reasons why the leaders Of both vents started the chaos, and even the evidence the courts used against the accused people in his play. The New England Puritans had always been a very strict society with minimal enjoyment and pleasures. In The Crucible the girls who become the main providers of the spectral evidence were originally going to get punished for dancing in the forest. When questioning Abigail, Reverend Paris says to Abigail he cannot denounce the rumor of witchcraft when he saw the girls dancing like heathen, but Abigail says that she is willing to be punished with a whipping (Miller 9). This parallels McCarthy with the fear of anything related to communism. After World War II and during the Cold War, Americans were on edge and outright terrified about anything related-directly or indirectly-to Communism. We will write a custom essay sample on The Crucible and McCarthyism Paralleled or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This even stretched to dog breeds; the German Shepherds popularity declined after World War II because of anti;German sentiments and was even temporarily renamed to the Alsatian Wolf Dog (Animal Planet). Both in America during the 1 sass-ass and in 1692, towns were filled with people on edge and people who were cared of what tomorrow would bring, from an accusation of being a witch to a USSR attack. It seemed that Communism was starting to take over the world with the Iron Curtain taking territory and democracy falling which raised fear in Americas their well being and that of their governments (Brinkley). There were also witchcraft trials in Europe from 1480 to 1 750 where 40,000 to 60,000 people were executedmore than a thousand times more than the Salem Witch Trialsbut in America there were not many witchcraft accusations before the Salem Witch Trials (Brinkley). Similarly, before the itch hunts of the sass-ass there was not much bad talk about communism and there was even a Commun ist Party USA that played a prominent role in the US labor movement from the 1 sass-ass (Socialism ASSAI).On both situations panic was raised to monumental heights that led to extreme situations and was the result Of one persons influence. The Salem Witch Trials were conjured by a mixture of fear, ambition, frustration, jealousy, and perverted pride that ended with men and women hanged (Miller vii). It all started with Abigail Williams accusing her black servant of conjuring the dead n the forest to cover up that she and a few of her friends were cursing the wife of the man she had an affair with (Miller 40); Abigail was just trying to cover up her own UN-Puritan tracks. Also because of this affair, the wife that was cheated on had been, blackening {Abigail name] in the village which was the other reason Abigail was cursing her to death in the forest (Miller 22). The Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy gave a speech in February of 1950 that dropped a bombshell by saying, The State Department is infested with Communists and that he had a list of over a hundred members of the Communist party who were state employees (Roberts). McCarthy had just been voted by the capital press corps as the worst Senator in Washington, but was able to raise fear of Communists in America (Roberts).McCarthy accusations led a few hundred people to prison and two To the electric McCarthy was able to fuel fear already present because of the wars, just as Abigail was able to spark fear of witches in the Puritan society with her accusations. Blood was shed in both scenarios and after the just settled, both leaders faded into obscurity; Abigail disappeared and Was found as a prostitute in Boston and McCarthy was censured by the Senate (one of the few senators to ever be disposed of in this fashion) and died at age 48 as a result of hepatitis (most likely from alcoholism (Wisped).During the Salem Witch Trials, Abigail was the able to strike fear into everyone by even getting the people to part like the sea for Israel when she walks through the courtroom and is seen as a saint in the eyes of the village (Miller 50). The evidence Abigail used was physical harm that she inflicted on herself, such as stabbing herself with a needle to accuse Goody Proctor of sending spirits on her (Miller 70), and most of all spectral evidence which was declared not a cceptable by law shortly before the Witch Trials were shut down (Davidson and Eyelet).During the 1 sass-ass, many Americans were inclined to believe the worst, even without evidence and McCarthy used this to his advantage by saying that there were non hundred and five state department employees who were members of the communist party thought there was ally only fifty seven alleged communists in office (Roberts). McCarthy found mostly flimsy evidence (Roberts) that was the equivalence to spectral evidence in the sass. Later, people declared McCarthy a serious violations of due process as did people after the Witch Trials (Checkers). Some courageous critics called McCarthy investigations and accusations a fraud and a hoax (Grim), but some of them, like Arthur Miller, were even accused of Communism (Roberts). Like Abigail, McCarthy was stoking fear and smearing anyone in his path, accusing everyone who crossed him of communism. People who tried calling out Abigail for her false accusations were accused Of witchcraft and she even openly threatened Judge Detonator when he tried asking her if all of the girls actions in the court were fake or not (Miller 100).Some critics say the Salem Witch Trials and McCarthy were not paralleled using examples such as The Crucible spanning about four months and the McCarthy investigations that lasted for a decade. Though the period of time in which both events happened differentiated, there are still more parallels between McCarthy and the Salem Witch Trials than differences. Another difference is that there were some, though not many, Communists found with the investigations by Mc Carthy including Nuclear scientist].Robert Oppenheim, but it was more often than not that the people being accused were innocent like the Salem Witch Trials (Gigs). Miller was able to parallel McCarthy by writing about the events and ways of thinking that prompted the outbreaks, the immediate reactions of the people, the reasons why the leaders of both events started the chaos, and even the evidence the courts used against the accused people in his play.

Effect of Pay-for-Performance on Reimbursement Here are some examples of pay for performance is Bridges of Excellent, which is a nonprofit health care plan. Its major factor is patients with diabetes. They feel like over 60% of patients with diabetes don’t get the proper treatment and care. The American Diabetes Association has standards and the Bridges to excellent plan gives annual bonuses to physicians in specific areas such as Boston, Louisville and Cincinnati these cities could and have meet the requirements of this health care plan. On this plan Diabetic care calls for the patient being compliant with care and medications. Another plan is Anthem Indianapolis this plan started in 1999 that employed over 25 OBGYN providers in Ohio. This is the oldest plan within the US. This plan is done on and by patient satisfaction. Providers push generic drugs instead of name brand ones. Pay For Performance Pay for performance is a movement in health care field. Providers under this arrangement are rewarded for meeting pre-established target dates for specific health care services or procedures. This is also known as P4P or â€Å"value-based purchasing,† this rewards physicians, clinics, and rehabilitation centers, Surgical clinics, hospitals, medical groups, and other healthcare providers. They are rewarded for meeting certain performance measures, as well as quality and efficiency. (Wachter, Bob; (2012) Pay for performance does things such as eliminating payments for negative consequences of care. Which can be medical errors from all health care providers. Errors have increased costs. With increase of seasoned senior citizens and disability patients the high rising cost of health care has brought the P4P to the front of the line. Brought P4P to the forefront of health policy discussions. There have been some studies done by several large healthcare systems. With this it has shown improvements with specific outcomes. A little efficie ncy has taken effect, but at no cost savings. How much are they really saving because the cost of administrative services is still required. Explains how reimbursement is affected by the pay-for- performance approach. Within the last decade or years the economy has had many people becoming unemployed and finding jobs at a lower pay rate as to where they cannot afford insurance because they are to high. With being done more people are applying for Medicaid and with all the seasoned senior citizens retiring and receiving Medicare these two insurances are already participating in this service. Majority of health care systems are participating. Many believe  that for- profit and non-for-profit health care facilities believe in lower cost for providers that meet the standards of quality care. Care field. There is a perception that cost is driving up health care treatment. Cost reductions lowers cost of visits, emergence room visits, and urgent care visits. It also helps providers to promote preventive care to their patients. Making sure that all hospitals and providers are on the same scale of service. Preventive care helps prevent insurance premiums from rising at cost to the company and consumer. Effect of Pay-for-Performance health care Providers and their Patients This plan has the support of providers, hospitals and even patients. With this pay for providers must have and use good judgment for treatment and medication and test that maybe ran. The health care cannot be rated by race, ethnic background, or the patient’s social status. This plan should not judge by a patient’s location. This plan is and should be a relationship between patient and provider. The provider needs to understand the patients beliefs and it may help them to treat them and respond to certain myths and recommendations that the provider may suggest. Hospitala and providers and helat care workers are being encouraged to buy into the P4P by different agencies and tahe government. Individual health plans area chiming in also. It has pros and cons such as weakness that may or may not improve health care. It is suppose to help lower or slow down ER visits and physicians visits. Now if the providers give quality and efficent care they would and could get financial rewards if patient care improves. P4P measures performance and policy set up for putting this service in action. Discusses the effects pay-for-performance will have on the future of health care The P4P effects that will be seen in the future of health care is that the health care field will see it expand. Pay-for-Performance-defined a reimbursement service that will have links to payments for quality care, which will be an incentive to help improve health care quality of patients by physicians, and hospitals. In improving health care it is suppose to reduce the cost of It was expected that hospitals and providers would respond to P4P incentives. For future health care will based on quality health care and it will become a contract for reimbursement. Patients should feel like they have gotten the  value of their money.
